youths of today

A few days ago, I came across 3 secondary school students challenging each other to a 'One-On-One' fight after school.
It was merely because 1 of them had accidentally brushed against the other 2 while walking.
and this happened at 7AM.

Below is an extract of their heated argument in English.

'Oi! Want to fight ar?'
'Sorry!'
'Sorry for what?! Fight one-on-one if you have got balls la!'
'No balls ar? Which gang you belong to?'
'Scared for what! Come, 2pm at Level 5 carpark'

and the argument goes on. .

What have our youths of today become?
What's with triads and all?
Perhaps because they provide a sense of security,
or rather 'Brotherhood' in layman terms.

But does fighting really solves the problem?

A classic example:

A typical beng walking down the road with his girfriend.
When another guy takes notice of the girfriend,
the typical beng would go
'oi! kua si mi!/see what see! want to fight is it?!'

are you showing off your musculity in front of her or trying to 'protect' her?
what a way to do so.

Its just a cycle.
When ordinary youths observes their peers and
deems that fighting over small matters is 'cool',
they join in to be 'beng wannabes'
Maybe its because they want to protect their weak self from being exposed.
Many a time, I come across 'bengs' who are only putting up a brave, fierce front so that they do not get bullied.

How will they be when they grow up?
Some grow out of it, but there's a minority that do not.
